Bristol has developed into an unusual setting, although with no
city centre in Bristol, the river Avon and the floating harbours
along the banks carve up the city into various areas that give each
different area a distinct feel from the others. These different
areas are well worth exploring and discover what each has to offer.
Along the back drop of the harbour are loads of bars, restaurants,
cinemas, museums and art galleries and its a great place to take
a nice casual walk. The At-Bristol complex is along here and its
an award winning complex and well worth a visit. Also here is the
Bristol Tourist Information Centre.
Looking across the water one can see the Bristol Industrial Museum
and also along the edge of the water not too far away are the city’s
two famous ships - the SS Britain as well as the Matthew. Even the
locals like to come down to the waters edge here and chill out,
admiring the beauty. The area really comes to life in the Summer
time and is a great place to relax and get yourself a coffee. One
can also take a trip on one of the ferries that will take you around
the water and give you the best views. The historic Cathedral is
on Park Street and is considered the trendiest street in Bristol.
Even the skateboarders hang out here. This street is full of cafes,
shops and restaurants and there are many students in this area which
make the place even livelier.
If you are venturing up towards the top where its oh so steep,
don’t forget to take a peak at the Georgian House and Cabot
Tower which are located both off Great George Street. Close enough
to here is the Red Lodge as well as the City Art Gallery and its
museum, and are great to visit, especially if the weather is bad.
Corn Street which is one of the oldest streets in Bristol where
all the rich merchants use to browse around and meet up is now transformed
into a modern shopping street and it still retains the grand and
ornate buildings.
These buildings are now full of trendy restaurants and cafes as
well as bars where classic dining and drinking can be enjoyed.
