Whiteladies Road is also a part of the famous Clifton area and
the name refers to the historic fact that a Nunnery was located
on this street where the nuns wore white habits. The place is known
as the strip and is full of bars and trendy restaurants where it
is considered the main place to hang out for the young and pretty
with money in their pockets. Its an ideal place for a night out
and one does not have to traipse all over the city.
Montpelier, Gloucester Road and St. Paul’s are close to the
centre and are the hang out area for the artists and alternative
types. St. Paul’s is the home of the annual St. Paul’s
Carnival, which is a great annual street party which is getting
more popular year by year. It celebrates the local Caribbean and
African Community in Bristol and crowds of up to 100,000 congregate
here each year.
