St. Nicholas Market is also halfway up Corn Street and there is
lots of stalls full of gifts and produce set up around the grid
like alley ways.
When one is finished dining in Corn Street, why not follow the
crowds and they will lead you up to Broadmead, which is a grid of
pedestrianised streets that are jam packed full of the leading chain
stores, and in the middle is the indoor shopping mall which is called
the Galleries Shopping Centre. Its a little brash but is certainly
ideal for the shopper that has money burning holes in their pockets.
Up the Christmas steps and onto St. Michael’s Hill, one can
take a nice break from the shopping at the Highbury Vaults as well
as lively cafes such as the St. Michaels Cafe which is the students
choice when one wants a fry up which brings you into the Cotham
and Redland area. Although its a residential area, there are great
charity shops for anyone chasing a bargain and there is no shortage
of pubs and restaurants lined up on these leafy streets alongside
beautiful old houses. There is a student feel about this area.
Although it is a quite expensive area, Clifton Arcade is full of
small independent antique shops alongside many pubs and restaurants
and is in great surroundings.
Gloucester Rd. is the alternative strip and is a lively spot packed
with bars and restaurants and shops. It would take you a whole day
to shop in this area at all the alternative shops.
