Britain’s oldest working theatre which is the Theatre Royal,
is located on King Street an if its new productions that are on
their way to the West End, then pay a visit here. At the Hippodrome
one can see the Phantom of the Opera and the likes of Dr. Do Little.
It is also located in the city centre. The Tobacco Factory is Bristol’s
newest Theatre, located in Bedminster, and although it caters for
the smaller productions, has great shows.
There are two Art House cinemas located at the Arnolfini and at
the Watershed and have lots of foreign films as well as the odd
film festival. The Odeon in the city centre has all the Hollywood
latest releases as well as the ABC in Whiteladies Road. The state
of the art IMAX Cinema which is part of the At-Bristol Complex is
very comfortable. Not forgetting the Warner Village Cinema on the
edge of the city and the Showcase.
For Comedy, visit the Bristol Comedy Pub on Stokes Croft which
hosts more semi professionals and has a lot of originality in its
performances. There is also the Jesters Comedy Club on Cheltenham
Road, which has special nights for students and has great entertaining
line ups for all its visitors. The Colston Hall would also play
host to the likes of Mark Lamarr and the likes. There is a pub
in Bedminster that has a venue upstairs called the MadHouse which
is really popular and hosts big names as well as up and coming
local talent. Its mostly only a fortnightly comedy club though.
