Bristol has a great diversity of bars in the city and there is
healthy competition between venues seeing places retain their old
world charm, which can only be good news for the visitor. There
are not that many trendy bars in the city, but there are exceptions
such as Ether or the Severnshed, so most of the drinking is done
in traditional style pubs.
At weekends the bars are heaving full of the young set and of course
all ages too, enjoying their night out and don’t be surprised
if you come across a lively bar full of screeching girls and macho
boys laughing and shouting which can be a little intimidating for
the foreign tourist, but will realise sooner than later that its
all good natured fun and entertainment.
Along the harbour you will come across E-Shed, Torches and Brannigan.
These are trendy joints for the younger generation and are full
of the dressed up types all engrossed in the chatting up game.
If you want a more quieter crowd, check out the Arnolfini and the
Watershed around the harbour which attract the more arty crowd and
are less noisy.
If you want a lively boisterous bar full of entertainment and noise,
head down King Street which is a cobbled street full of old style
ancient pubs brimming full of nautical history. At the end of this
street is Bar Med which attracts the younger generation.
Corn Street has its fair share of bars and places like the Slug
and Lettuce attract the younger generation.
If its a quieter bar you seek, you may have to go to the edges of
the city to places like the Hope and Anchor which has a great beer
Garden and is only 10 minutes from the centre. Around Clifton is
the Coronation Tap, which sell the West country’s favourite
tipple, the famous cider. This is sold in only half pints due to
it being so potent. So enjoy and bottoms up!
